Winners of the @animallibqld Mothers Day Raffle came today for their cooking class and lunch 💚

Yay to Karen for supporting @animallibqld by buying $50 worth of tickets 💪🤩💪 you definitely deserved to win with that generosity 🤗

Today we made some of the most popular recipes I teach and serve here, a full bodied cashew cheese, the one pot lasagne soup and a lemon cheesecake with samples of the salted caramel cashew cream and dessert of my much loved butterscotch cheesecake.

Karen and Rose also received a copy of the 120 page recipe and nutrition ebook which is available for purchase on my website (link in bio)

Neither of the ladies are vegan but really loved all the dishes… this is gentle, practical advocacy at work.

Going vegan is way easier than most people realise, and it’s beautiful. But at the end of the day, the best we can do is to help make the path easier for others… teaching others simple delicious recipes, living a healthy, happy example and sharing small truths about our animal friends help provide some whys’ and hows’…. but ultimately it’s up to the individual to make the connection.

We are not so very different to those beings we choose to eat or use for our convenience or pleasure. It takes some inner work to recognise that.

A cooking class, a stay at a vegan bed and breakfast has proved to be a turning point for many over the years… and if not to go vegan then to begin to make changes.

As I wave goodbye and return to clean up I am satisfied I made two people happy and gave them some recipes they loved and will try at home, hopefully frequently. And today, that was enough. Just do your best. Be kind, be generous, be respectful and do your best.

Farewelling mum and daughter guests with Strawberry and Salted Caramel Waffles ❤️

It was such a beautiful experience hosting these two women after a couple of weeks away in the NT hiking.

Watching the stress of their busy lives melt away, the smiles get bigger and brighter and of course being showered by compliments with the food (and the supreme comfort of the Sunrise Room bed 😄) always makes me happy!

I’m giving a free cooking class to the winners of the @animallibqld Mothers Day raffle tomorrow and looking forward to bringing some more smiles to faces then🌱

Cooking Classes are available for booking on the website with special offers for booking multiple classes …and you can contact me to request a private class for a time that is mutually convenient, not just the times allocated on the website :)

Classes are limited to just 3 pupils for maximum attention and intolerances are catered for as far as possible within a group situation.

If you have specific requirements please book a private class directly.

Cooking experiences including the partaking of what we made together 😄🤗 is 2.5 hours and cost is $90.

The very best thing we can do for our and our families health, other than get more quality sleep 😄, is eat healthier meals of the unprocessed plant food variety…but it’s gotta taste good cos life’s too short for bland food kiddos! 😂

Post hike musings.
Finished my two weeks of Northern Territory hiking and paddling this time last week. I’ve done this kind of thing in the NT most winters since 2015. It’s my grounding and recharge place, like The Beet Retreat has been for so many over the last 8 years … for those who prefer comfy beds, showers and dinners being cooked for them .. oh and no packs to lug 😂

I know my house and critter did a great job with loving the fur fam but we still feel shitty about leaving them don’t we..they know you’re packing and play on your guilt every damn time right 😂🤦‍♀️ Smoxy used to take up residence in the top of my pack 😆

But travel pulls at me… the truth is if I had the money I’d probably do it half the year 😂 how bout you?

For me dust, dirt, a tiny tent and no internet is gold… but also means when I get back to the luxuries of home I revel in it 😂

We can love our home life, in my case it’s my work life too, but many of us stagnate with too much “ease” I think. Basic travel shakes us and wakes us up to all we have. Equalising our senses. For me it’s important.

I got the most moving email sent from one of the ladies who did my Empower Retreat a while back (I won’t name her but I know she will read this and know it’s her I am speaking of❤️) just before I went away.

In it she said it changed her life 🥹

I thought about her words and her while I was out in the bush. Thought about why I do what I do here, especially with the retreats and the classes. I forget sometimes the difference they make in peoples lives. And by default, animals lives. It’s unique and it matters. This work has both meaning and purpose. We all seek that.

B and I are good friends now. I am so damn proud of what she has achieved and who she has become these past years. There’s been plenty to overcome and boy has she. Love you lots B. You’re a fabulous role model to those around you. You may credit me with certain things but you did the work B. You. You don’t see what we see. Your grit and resilience. I guess none of us do tho do we… our own worst critics 🤦‍♀️😆

Now the new website is finished I am ready to get new brochures and biz cards.

Getting the right look and vibe is soooo important eh!

For many it’s going to be their very first introduction to a vegan bed and breakfast!

My last brochure design was 8 years ago and though it was fab it was very “Melbourne” 😂 dark and dramatic and bold.

Noosa requires something different yeah? Like the theme of the new website, softer, more relaxed, reflecting the welcoming eco-ethical ethos here…

I’ve approached a vegan guy on Fiverr but he’s not got back to me and I figured someone in my network may have the expertise and love to do this for me.

I’d love to do a services trade in lieu of payment if that works too! The Fiverr guy is $25 but I don’t expect you to charge Fiverr rates… (for which I will probably get Fiverr service 😂)

Anyhoo… feel free to tag someone who is at least somewhat aligned with the vegan thing (I always prefer to support fellow animal lovers in biz stuff if possible!) and let’s see what happens 💚🌱💚

PS: I now what 6 entries for the very first 7 night Revitalise Retreat stay which will be drawn end of July so if you’ve been thinking of coming, book a one night stay (minimum) and you’re IN the running (that booking can be tacked on or stay another time. 12 months to use!

If you get creeped out by reptiles of the Water Monitor kind (surely not!) don’t watch 😂

My patience was well rewarded with this gorgeous lazy lizard mate finally giving me a display of his water loving antics after 40 minutes of sun baking at one of the waterholes Kate and I camped at on the Tabletop Track in the NT a couple of days ago.

I have a heap of fab photos of our two hikes and kayaking trip tbh but I wont bombard you with more than this and the previous post on my biz page😂 Trying to curb my habit of sharing irrelevant things… a little 😉😁😅

But I mean, come on, who wouldn’t enjoy seeing a being like this, in his natural and unspoilt environment.

He ended up only 1-2 metres away, he was totally aware of my presence but decided to enjoy his nightly bath with great confidence anyway. Watch how he pops his little head up out of the lil waterfall 🤗🥹 and swims about in the shallow pool before slipping away over edge of another spillover with a jaunty farewell flick of his slippery tail 🥰

This is why we multi-day walk solo or in tiny groups…in remote places. For the chance to be, momentarily, back in a time when these experiences were part of every day human life too…
simple, in the moment stuff… where what you’re wearing, what you look like, who you are, how much money you have in the bank means absolutely jack shit.

This is why we walk.

Hey Kiddos! I’m back (nearly 😆)

Sitting on the deck of a “donga” (you’ve probably spent time in remote locations in Australia if you know what that is 😂)
Kate and I booked for two nights after skipping a campsite on our most recent hike, the Tabletop Track in Litchfield NP. 2 nights instead of 3.

We hiked 5 nights/6 days on the beautiful Jatbula Trail down at Nitmiluk NP in Katherine first where I had the best dingo encounter of my life first morning. Thought I captured every precious up-close moment on video as a youngish one trotted up the trail oblivious of my muted coloured presence. He got so close I spoke softly so as not to let him get too close and after his “smile” vanished he and his equally oblivious friend/mum behind bolted I saw I hadn’t pressed record 😫🤦‍♀️ I got a lil 2 second bit of him bolting back across the trail to join his friend 🤷‍♀️

Anyhoo… it was a good 15 seconds that will live in my mind forever 💚

We did an overnight paddle up Katherine Gorge, slept on the sand at Gorge 4 “Smitts Rock” but paddled/walked up to 6.
Jammed my knee between a rock and the 45 odd kg canoe (with 2 packs) as it plummeted off a high boulder as we headed back the next day (during one of the many portages) but it did well on the second hike that we started under 24 hours later (with the help of ibuprofen and a great stick I called Russ - Russ Tick (rustic, get it 😁)

Home late tomoz and straight back into looking after my fabbo guests on Tuesday. Booking came in this arvo! Stoked! At this stage you have a 1 in 3 chance of winning a 7 day stay so pls DO book a night this month (12 months to use!) and you may win it!!!
